not only is downloading music from the internet without paying for it illegal (even for educational purposes), it is also quite risky. case in point, this weekend, my laptop came down with an infection, actually, technically, 3 infections -- 3 trojans to be exact. not exactly the conficker virus, but a total pain in the @$$ nonetheless.
it only took 4 scans, 7 calls to tech support, $120, and 11 hours to clean up my computer, and now she's de-bugged and slower than ever! thanks, mcafee! their total protection plan was a total waste! it didn't protect me or rescue me from this mess at all, and i'm now seriously questioning the value of a subscription anti-virus service when there's such huge gaps in it's coverage.
please let me know what anti-virus/anti-malware/anti-spyware/anti-adware programs you use and love. inquiring minds really want to know! =)
for the record, my dad (a super high-tech internet security nerd @ the state of california's department of justice) told me about a few programs that might save you from some of my recent misery:
windows defender
windows malicious software removal tool
threatfire
spybot
adaware
and just learned about this free cloud-based anti-virus app! :)
i totally learned the hard way about the dangers of downloading (sketchy) stuff. hopefully you won't have to.
